MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers posted their second straight Sunshine State Conference women’s basketball win on Wednesday night in the Health & Sports Center, 62-50 over the Saint Leo Lions.
The Bucs (9-9, 2-6 SSC) sprinted out to a 36-17 lead at the break and held on for the 12-point win. The Bucs held the Lions to 17 points on 31.8 percent shooting in the first half. The Lions (9-10, 1-7 SSC) never got closer than 11 in the second half.
Yvonne Houston led all scorers with 16 points and added seven rebounds. Shanna Suttington, who hit her first three shots from long-range, added 15 points and five assists, while Danielle DeBerry had 11 points and five assists. Jamara Robinson led the Lions with 14 points and Chelsea Williams chipped in 12.
The Bucs travel to the Martinez Center to face the league-leading Tampa Spartans on Saturday, Jan. 29 with tip-off set for 5:30 pm.
