MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s basketball team dropped a conference game to Rollins College in the Health & Sports Center on Wednesday evening. The Bucs fell 54-70 to the Tars.
The Bucs (7-14, 4-8 SSC) hung with the Tars (19-4, 11-1 SSC) for the first 12 minutes of the game, down 14-11 with 8:58 remaining in the first. Yet the Tars went on a 9-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 23-13 lead with 5:59 remaining in the first half.
Rollins reached their largest lead of the first half, 12, with 0:21 seconds remaining and would enter halftime up 29-17.
Both teams came out hot in the second half as they combined for seven three-pointers in the first seven minutes. Zack Trapp and Bryan Van Cott had two apiece for the Bucs.
Down 51-35 with 12:38 remaining, Barry went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to six, 51-45 with 9:43 remaining in the game. The Tars, however, remained too strong down the stretch, and went on to win the game 70-54.
Trapp led the way for Barry with 17 points off of 6-11 from the floor and 5-9 from three-point land. Van Cott had 11 points while Willie Whitfield had 10. The Bucs return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host the Florida Tech Pantehrs at 4:00 pm.
