MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University men’s basketball team moved to 4-9 in conference play with a 66-60 loss to the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs trailed by one at half, but were outscored 43-36 in the second half.
Both teams came out slow in the first half as the Bucs (7-15, 4-9 SSC) led 10-9 11 minutes into the half. The Bucs reached multiple five point leads in the first before Tech scored the final four points of the half to go into halftime down 24-23.
The Panthers (17-9, 7-5 SSC) came out on a 15-7 run to open the second half, going up 38-31 with 14:23 remaining in the game. Tech was able to stretch its lead to 48-34, its largest of the game, midway through the second half.
Barry worked tirelessly to cut the lead to five, 56-51 off a Willie Whitfield layup, but Tech was too strong, and went on to win 66-60.
Whitfleid led the way for the bucs with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Zack Trapp and Bryan Van Cott combined for 25 and Evan White had 11.
The Bucs return to action on Wednesday, February 16 when they host Nova Southeastern in a Code Red game at 7:30 pm.
