Women's Tennis Locks Away Lady Jeffs

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry University women’s tennis team beat the top-ranked NCAA Division III Amherst College Lady Jeff’s on Saturday afternoon. The Bucs only surrendered one point in singles and one in doubles.
 
In doubles action, Laura Boguet and Alex Gwizdowski downed Natasha Brown and Laura Danzig 8-6 in the second flight. At No. 3, Julie Stas and Olivia Matuszak beat Jennifer Newman and Caroline Richman 8-2.
 
At the top doubles flight, the fourth-ranked team of Barbi Pocza and Angie Werschel fell 8-4 to Jordan Brewer and Gabby Devlin.
 
In singles action, #14 Pocza took a 6-1, 6-2 win over Brewer at the top flight. Werschel, ranked #23, defeated Danzig 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2. Playing in the third flight, Boguet nearly blanked Carlissa King, winning 6-0, 6-1. Mona Monsour earned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Brown at number five singles while Stas beat Mimi Bell 6-1, 6-3 in the final singles flight.
 
Caroline Wendling dropped the only singles match for Barry, she fell 6-2, 6-3 to Devlin.
 
The Bucs return to action tomorrow for a conference matchup against Saint Leo at 10:00 am.
