WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—The Barry University volleyball team dropped a five-set battle to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Friday evening. Barry took the first and fourth sets, but were unable to hold off PBA in the fifth.

In the first set, Barry took a 3-1 lead with the help of three PBA errors. The Sailfish jumped back and caught the Bucs at 5-5. Both teams traded points back-and-forth throughout the majority of the match with neither team taking more than a two-point lead until the last point of the match. Tied at 20 apiece, the Bucs finished the Sailfish in set one with the help of four kills by Tania Torres and one by Mima Hajdukovic.

The Sailfish jumped out to a 4-1 lead in set number two. Down 5-3, however, Barry took six straight for a 9-5 lead. Morgan Howard, Lanie Muys, and Torres had kills in the run while Muys chipped in on defense with a pair of blocks. PBA took ten of the next 13 points for a 15-13 lead. Barry stormed right back, taking four straight for a 17-15 lead. Hajdukovic had an ace and a kill in the run. The Sailfish, however, were too strong down the stretch; tied at 18 apiece, PBA took the final seven points for the 25-18 win.

In set three, the Sailfish stormed out to a 10-1 lead as the Bucs struggled on offense. PBA kept the heat on and went on to take set three 25-8.

In the fourth set, the Bucs and Sailfish traded points through 4-3 before the Bucs took four straight, off a Sailfish error and a kill and two blocks from Lanie Muys, for a 7-4 lead. Trailing 11-7, PBA took six straight for a 13-11 lead. The Bucs took five of the next six with the help of a kill apiece by Alicia Guerrero, Torres, and Muys for a 17-14 lead. Though the Sailfish had a four-point run late, it was the Bucs who would prevail in set four as Barry took five of the last seven points for a 25-23 win in set four.

The Bucs struck first in the fifth set off a Guerrero kill but the Sailfish took the next three for a 3-1 lead. A Lisboa kill gave Barry the next point to go put the Bucs down 3-2. The teams traded the next four points through 5-4 before the Sailfish took two-straight for a 7-4 lead. The Bucs trailed by two or three through 11-8 at which point they took three straight to tie set five at 11-11. The Sailfish prevailed though, taking four of the final points for the 15-13 win in set five and the 3-2 win in the match.

For the Buccaneers, Torres had 16 kills while Lisboa had 15 and Muys posted 10. Muys led the defense with six total blocks while Guerrero chipped in with 19 digs. Hajdukovic amassed 39 assists.
