MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped their home opener to the Valdosta State Blazers 67-58 at the Health & Sports Center on Saturday night.
The Bucs (0-2) tied the game at 56-56 on a three-pointer by Shanna Suttington with 4:55 to play, but the Blazers (2-0) scored 11 unanswered points, six by Brittany Ferguson, to go up 67-56 before Danielle DeBerry closed the game with a bucket at the buzzer.
DeBerry led the Bucs with 16 points, while Suttington had 13 and freshman Jackie Perez added 11. Bena Hanyard led all scorers with 20 points, including 15-of-16 from the line. Ferguson had 16, Sczeny Hartry added 14 and Maylissa Johnson had 12 points.
The Bucs host Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 pm in the HSC.
