Barry University men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Friday in a 5-2 setback at NCAA Division I North Florida in Jacksonville.

The No. 2 Buccaneers (2-1) head to Saint Leo and St. Petersburg for a pair of Sunshine State Conference road matches at Saint Leo and Eckerd College, respectively.

Daniel Schmidt, a sophomore transfer from the University of Washington, won two matches for the Bucs. Schmidt and Marco Mokrzycki beat Julien Belair and Beauregard Treyz, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles. Schmidt outlasted Norbert Nemscek, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5, 10-8 at No. 2 singles.

Mokrzycki and Schmidt have won all three doubles matches this season.

Barry's Fabian Groetsch beat Leonardo Nahar, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, to win the No. 5 singles flight.

Mokrzycki and Leo Vivas fell at Nos. 1 and 6 singles in three-set decisions.

North Florida improved to 3-1.
