Barry Women's Tennis Secures Quarterfinals Win

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Barry University women's tennis completed its suspended Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championships quarterfinals match with Tampa with a 5-0 win.

Barry (20-0) moves onto the semifinals later Friday at Beerman Tennis Center. Tampa (6-9) fell into the backdraw bracket.

Ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division II, Barry swept all three doubles matches before rain halted the match Thursday, moving play into Friday .

Barry's No. 1 duo of Mona Mansour and Cristina Valladares beat Meg Wladimirski and Lauren Hewett, 8-2. Julie Stas and Olivia Matuszak rolled past Leslie Raymond and Megan Mancini, 8-2. Caroline Wendling and Linda Fritschken defeated Thasia Garcia and Briana Ryan, 8-1, at No. 3 in the first pairs match to finish.

When play resumed Friday, Matuszak, ranked No. 38 in the country, quickly ran through her No. 3 singles match with Meg Wladimirski, winning 6-2, 6-0. That gave the Bucs a 4-0 lead in the match. Sarah Krohnen clinched the victory for Barry with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Megan Manci at No. 5.

The other singles matches were left unfinished.
