TAMPA, Fla.—The third-seeded Barry Buccaneers fell 1-0 to the sixth-seed Florida Southern Moccasins in the first game of the NCAA Division II South Region-2 Tournament at the University of Tampa’s Vince Naimoli Family Field on Friday.

The Bucs (40-10) had chances early against Mocs’ starter Christine Clark (27-9), but failed to capitalize. Barry had two base-runners in each of the first two innings, but failed to score.

The Mocs (37-16) got the only run they would need in the third inning, loading the bases with one out on three straight singles by Sam Gale, Karlyn Scott and Steff Graziani. Randi Grimes drew a walk off Barry starter Brianna Smith (22-6) to force in Gale with the run.

Clark scattered five hits and hit one batter to toss her 112th shutout of the season. She struck out four. Smith allowed just one other hit outside the third inning, a lead-off single by Scott in the fifth inning, but walked three in five innings of work. Alexis Yohe set down six of the seven batters she faced to close out the game.

The Bucs will face the loser of the Tampa/West Alabama game at 3:30 pm on Saturday. Live statistics and video broadcasts are available through the tournament website at http://www.tampaspartans.com/page.asp?articleID=3646.
