WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry University senior men's tennis player Max Wimmer was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, presented by VALIC.
It is Wimmer's second weekly league-wide award of the season. He earned his first exactly a month ago in the opening week of the season.
Wimmer, a Brenau, Germany, native, won three doulbes matches, beginning at home Tuesday when he and partner Leo Vivas defeated No. 11 nationally-ranked Victor Cabellos and Victor Guimaraes of Augusta State, 8-6, at the No. 1 flight. He won two more doubles matches in Valdosta, Ga., including an important No. 3 pairs victory with Vivas that helped lead the No. 4 Buccaneers to a 5-4 win over No. 2 West Florida Friday.
Wimmer also won his No. 3 singles match in the victory over the Argonauts.
Saturday, he and Vivas collected another doubles win at No. 2, and Wimmer picked up another No. 3 singles victory as the Bucs beat host Valdosta State.
Wimmer improved to 8-0 in singles at three different flights, and 8-1 in doubles, which includes a perfect 6-0 mark with Vivas.
Barry (9-0) will host a pair of NCAA Division I schools this week, beginning with Wednesday's 10 a.m. match against Pennsylvania at Buccaneer Tennis Center. The Bucs also host Georgetown at 10 a.m. Friday.
