MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The good news is the versatility in this offense is expanding. The bad news: Barry University's volleyball team fell to 1-6 in league play after a four-set loss to Florida Tech Wednesday at Health & Sports Center.

Barry dropped the match, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, on academic achievement night when student-athletes from the spring semester were honored.

The loss ended Barry's three-match win streak, preventing the Bucs a chance to draw even at the .500 mark. Now they will look to regroup Saturday when the Bucs (8-10, 1-6 Sunshine State Conference) host Eckerd at 4 p.m. in the second of four straight home matches.

Ashley Carrero had double-figure kills for the fourth straight match, finishing with 11, while leading Barry with 19 digs. Ivana Didanovic had 13 kills, hit .571 and had four blocks.

The Bucs hit .000 in the second set, but still pulled it out after rallying late to draw even going into intermission. But after the break, the Panthers (14-6, 4-3) didn't let Barry capitalize down the stretch in close sets, and left Miami Shores with a win on a night Barry was out of sorts at times defensively.

The Buccaneers were outdug for the 13th time this season, this time 70-67. Kristen Reid had 14 digs for Barry. Angie Lassman had 21 for Tech, which out hit the Bucs, .160 to .095.

Tashalyn Begon has found her rhthym offensively for Barry, pounding eight kills and delivering three blocks. She helped the Bucs outblock Tech, 10.5 to 3. Jayla Trombley had four blocks, including a solo for the Bucs.

Barry fell to 1-2 in four-set matches this year.

Saturday's match against Eckerd will be broadcast on the Bucs Broadcast Network . Dr. Darlene Kluka will handle the color in that match.
