Men's Tennis Hosts St. Thomas Thursday

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- Marco Mokrzycki and Max Wimmer will be honored on Senior Day as No. 2 Barry hosts St. Thomas 3 p.m. Thursday at Buccaneer Tennis Center.

The Bucs (20-0) also play Palm Beach Atlantic 3 p.m. Friday. St. Thomas is ranked No. 26 in NAIA.

Mokrzycki and Wimmer are two of the best players in Barry men's tennis' storied history.

Mokrzycki has won three All-American awards, including two in singles and another in doubles, in his first three years at Barry. Last season, the 6-foot-6 Hannover, Germany, product earned All-American acclaim in both singles and doubles. Mokrzycki went 14-5 in singles, which included an 8-3 record against nationally-ranked opponents in 2012. He was ranked No. 5 in the country in singles play at the close of his junior season. Mokrzycki also went 21-6 in doubles, finishing the year with a No. 9 national ranking with partner Leo Vivas. His 21 doubles victories tied for ninth in Buccaneer single-season history.

This year, Mokrzycki is 10-2 in singles with a 7-2 record against nationally-ranked opponents. He is ranked No. 4 in the country in singles. He owns a 15-2 doubles mark, including a 13-2 record with partner Fabian Groetsch. Mokrzycki has beaten the Nos. 1-2 singles players in NCAA Division II. He and Groetsch also beat the No. 1 pairs team in the nation. Together, they are ranked No. 2 in the nation.

Mokrzycki has 71 career doubles victories, which ranks fifth in school history. His 48 career singles wins are tied for 14th all-time.

Mokrzycki has been named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week four times this season.

Wimmer is a three-time doubles All-American, having received the honor in each of his first three seasons. As a freshmen, he went 18-2 in singles and 21-5 in doubles. He collected 18 singles and 14 doubles victories as a sophomore before racking up 13 singles and 17 doubles victories as a junior. After taking last spring off, Wimmer returned to Miami Shores in the spring for his final season.

This year, Wimmer is 15-1 in singles and 15-3 in doubles. He is ranked No. 22 nationally in singles and No. 7 with Vivas in doubles. He owns a victory over the No. 18-ranked singles player in the country, which clinched Barry's 5-4 thrilling win over No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic to end the Pirates' 42-match win streak. He and Vivas also beat the No. 11-ranked pairs team in the nation, and own an 8-0 record together. He and Ollie Lemaitre are 4-2 as a tandem.

Wimmer's 64 career singles victories rank third in school history. His 67 doubles wins are tied for sixth.

Wimmer has been named SSC Player of the Week twice this year.
