by Commuter Affairs. This is a free service provided to help members of
the Barry Community (primarily students) find a variety of housing options in
the local areas.
Visitors may either search our database of listings or post a listing for a
property.
When searching the listings each property will have a map feature which will
show you the location in reference to Barry's Main Campus in Miami Shores. Here
are some descriptions of the neighborhoods in the area that are typically
listed.
Area DescriptionsCity of Miami Shores
Miami Shores is a small, residential community
located in Northeast Miami-Dade County, Florida. Incorporated in 1932, the
Village has maintained its "hometown" atmosphere, while nestled in the larger
metropolitan Miami area. The Village offers the best of urban environments -
it's close to all of the South Florida entertainment venues, international
airports and seaports, as well as fine shopping and dining - yet the Village's
quiet streets and avenues offer tranquility and a quality of life unsurpassed
in the surrounding areas.
City of North Miami BeachIn the City "Where People Care", residents gladly
volunteer their time as members of our boards, commissions and citizens' patrol
groups, enabling us to retain the familiar, friendly feel of a small town. NMB
has emerged as a richly textured multi-ethnic community, and in our many shops,
restaurants and markets, you can appreciate the cultures of people from all
over the globe. No matter what your country of origin, you are at home here.
Whether NMB's residents are recovering from a storm or meeting the challenges
of daily life, it's their resilience, sense of pride.
City of North MiamiNorth Miami offers a wide variety of housing options,
from affordable single-family homes and apartment condominiums -- both rental
and owner-occupied, to multi-million dollar estates looking over the beautiful
Biscayne Bay. With a subtropical climate, North Miami is a haven for outdoor
recreational activities like running, bicycling, tennis, and boating, along
with miles of sandy beaches close by. North Miami is a multi-ethnic community.
It shares South Florida's joy and excitement, and exemplifies the vibrant
diversity upon which the region thrives. In that sense, North Miami is unique
-- a micro-cosmos of a complex and rich palate of languages, cultures, ages,
and races.
City of AventuraAventura, one of Miami-Dade's newest communities, was
incorporated in 1995 and is a young, vibrant, full-service municipality with a
diverse demographic base and is recognized internationally as a premier
location in which to live, shop and play. Aventura is an upscale condo
community with some of South Florida's best-known large-scale condominium
projects and apartment buildings. Restaurants, movie theaters and the Aventura
Mall are convenient nearby and downtown Fort Lauderdale and Miami are just 20
minutes away. The first municipal-run charter school in Miami-Dade County. In
order to address the growing number of families with school age children, the
City Commission chose to take an aggressive approach to meet its changing
demographics. The 45,000 square foot state-of-the-art school serves 900
Aventura schoolchildren from kindergarten to 8th grade.
City of Miami Gardens
The City of Miami Gardens was incorporated on May 13,
2003, as the 33rd city in Miami-Dade County. The City is located in
North-Central region of the county, mid-way between Fort Lauderdale and Miami,
and is easily accessed by I-95, the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) and the
Florida Turnpike. The city comprises approximately 20 square miles. Miami
Gardens is home to Dolphin Stadium (used by the Miami Dolphins and the Florida
Marlins) and Calder Race Track. It has vibrant commercial corridors along the
Palmetto Expressway (serving as the central shopping district for the furniture
trade) and along U.S. 441 (serving the automobile trade). The city has rail
access through the Florida East Coast Railway and the South Florida Tri-Rail
System.
City of North Bay VillageThe City of North Bay Village is a three-island
community situated in northeast Miami-Dade County between the cities of Miami
and Miami Beach. The three islands - North Bay Island, Harbor Island and
Treasure Island - are linked by the John F. Kennedy (79th Street) Causeway,
which extends across Biscayne Bay from Miami to Miami Beach. The City has
excellent access to major airports, beaches, downtown Miami and Broward County
via I-95 and 79th Street.
City of MiamiKnown as the "Magic City", it is located in Southeast
Florida, in Miami-Dade County on the Miami River, between the Florida
Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean. Since its incorporation in 1896, the City
has grown tremendously, transforming it into one of the world's renowned

largest municipality in Miami-Dade County. Miami which is known as the Gateway
to Latin America attracts a tremendous amount of foreign born people, resulting
in a large Latin American population. Whether you are a resident, visitor or
business owner, the City of Miami welcomes you to the shiny City under the Sun.
Centrally located in a bustling urban area that is bursting with new
developments, residential homes and eye catching attractions; Miami is truly a
world class destination. Each neighborhood is fully equipped with full service
parks, fire and police stations and a Neighborhood Enhancement Team center
where residents and business owners can go to obtain answers to their questions
and help with City services.
City of Miami BeachIt is America's Riviera; a cosmopolitan city whose
residents are as diverse as its visitors. Miami Beach is seen as a
trend-setting art and entertainment Mecca, and a shopping and cultural wonder
by visitors, world travelers, celebrities, and locals alike. Miami Beach has
always been a tourist-friendly vacation hot spot, but the city offers so much
more now. Miami Beach is no longer just a place to lay on the beach soaking up
the sun, due to an economic boom that has sprung from the refurbishment of the
Art Deco Historic District. From cafe's, clubs and shopping along South Beach's
Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road, and Washington Avenue; the international hotels and
restaurants of Collins Avenue and Middle Beach; to the re-emerging neighborhood
in North Beach, Miami Beach offers visitors and residents a dazzling array of
amenities to enjoy.
