Faculty and Staff Urged to Volunteer for MLK Day of Service

Barry University faculty and staff members are urged to join students for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service – Saturday, January 18 – from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The purpose of the event is to honor Dr. King’s legacy by participating in service projects that promote peace, civic engagement, and social justice,” explains CCSI Associate Director Christina Leaño. “Barry University will collaborate with community organizations and educational institutions on projects that address many issues affecting different communities in Miami-Dade County.”

Most of the service sites are within 10 miles of Barry’s main campus. A list of the sites is available in the Community Engagement Management System (CEMS) at www.barry.edu/service.

“We encourage faculty and staff to bring their family and come participate alongside our students as we celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,” Leaño said. “Children are welcome.”

Faculty, staff, and students may register through CEMS or by phone – extn. 5465. Family members and other volunteers may register by contacting CCSI Program Coordinator Caitlin Geis at cgeis@barry.edu or 305-899-5465.
