Important Health Information for Hurricane Preparedness

In prepare for Hurricane Dorian, please keep in mind your personal health and wellbeing. While you are purchasing water, nonperishable food, and filling up your gas tank, please:

  • Renew your prescriptions and purchase over the counter medications such as Tylenol and Advil, Hand sanitizer, tissues and Band-Aids.
  • Most insurance companies including the student plan UHCSR. Are approving early prescription renewals for Florida residents due to the impending storm. Please renew your prescription now even if you are not yet due to renew.
  • As you plan to shelter at your home, a friend’s home or a Red Cross Hurricane shelter, please make sure you have your asthma inhaler (even if you have occasional episodes of asthma) insulin, eye drops, contact lens solutions and any other prescriptive medication you take.
  • If you activated your insurance coverage in the United Health Care Student Resources student insurance by selecting enroll at https://studentcenter.uhcsr.com/barry prior to August 29th you can download your insurance card now. If you enrolled after August 29st you should be in the UHCSR system with 48 hours. It is best that you print your card as well as down loading it just in case the internet is down after the storm. The policy is a nationwide policy, you can see a provider in another state if needed. For questions regarding your policy please call 1-800 767-0700.
  • Student Health Services will be closed when the University is closed. If you have a health concern during the time the University is closed, we have partnered with Healthiest You. They provide around the clock access to board certified physicians via the telephone and video conferencing while Student Health Services is closed. You can email student.healthiestyou.com or call (855)870-5858. This is a free service if you have the UHC student insurance plan.
  • Please have the number of a local pharmacy available. Please verify the pharmacy is open during and after the storm. If you have a major illness that cannot wait, please go to the closest Emergency Room in your area.
