Do I qualify?
To be eligible to join the Honors Program, you must first apply to Barry University. Applicants who meet the criteria below will be sent an invitation to join the program.
There are three pathways that a student may join the Honors Program: First Time in College (FTIC), Transfer, or Current Barry Student.

For the Test-Score Pathway, applicants must:
- Submit test scores (SAT 1310 or ACT 28)
- Attain a minimum high school GPA of 3.70
For the Test-Optional Pathway, applicants must:
- Attain a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 3.70

- Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 from an accredited university; or
- Earned an Associate’s degree from an accredited university

- Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.7 at time of application
- Have completed no more than 30 college credits (including any transfer credits)
- Complete the Honors Program admissions application (contact your academic advisor or email honorsprogram@barry.edu for application materials)
Applications are accepted at the end of each Fall and Spring semester. Specific dates can be found on the admissions application
Honors Scholarships
Honors Program Students may be eligible for the Barry Honors Scholarship, up to $5,000 per year. The scholarship is guaranteed for the duration of the of a student’s degree program provided that they meet the following requirements to remain in the Honors Program:
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50
- Complete the Honors Program curriculum
- Participate in at least two Honors Program events per semester

Yes, Honors Program students are eligible to apply for the Forrest J. Flammang Memorial Endowed Scholarship, an annual scholarship awarded to current students who demonstrate financial need. Successful applicants will receive the scholarship and serve on the Honors Program Student Advisory Board (HPSAB). For more information, please visit Scholarship Universe.

Yes, students who complete all requirements for the Honors Program will have a notation on their transcript that says: Student successfully completed the Honors Program.

The Honors Program sponsor a growing number of extracurricular activities each semester. Students can participate in service learning events, professional development workshops, student-led social events, contribute to the Honors Program Newsletter and more!

Honors Program students complete the following 18-credit curriculum:
- HON 110H: Honors Foundations
- PHI 191H: Philosophy and Theology in Dialogue
- SOC 394H: The World in America
- ENG 358H: Modernist and Postmodernist Literature
- HON 303H: Research Methods
- HON 47XH: Senior Project
- HON 470H: Honors Thesis
- HON 471H: Honors Capstone
- HON 472H: Honors Internship
- HON 473H: Honors Service-Learning Project
The Barry University Honors Program created four pathways that students can choose from to complete the Honors Project. This allows students across disciplines and career plans to complete the project that makes the most sense for them. Senior Projects must be completed in the final year of the students undergraduate program in order to graduate from the Honors Program.

Honors courses are limited to 15-20 students, giving you ample opportunities to engage in in-depth classroom discussions. The intellectual exchange and camaraderie between faculty and peers are among the top reasons students choose to join and stay in the program.

The Honors Program Student Advisory Board (HPSAB), is a student-led board that helps plan and execute program events, edits the Honors Program newsletter, and advises the Honors Program director.

To remain in the Honors Program students must maintain a 3.5 GPA, remain on target to complete the curriculum in a timely manner, and attend at least two Honors Program sponsored or co-sponsored events per semester.

Yes, beginning Fall 2025 new students will live in Weber Hall with an Honors Program Resident Advisor, and will participate in honors-specific programming.

The Honors Program prepares students for graduate school in several ways: through our rigorous curriculum that supports essential critical analytical skills required at the graduate level; exclusive workshops to prepare students to apply and succeed at the graduate level; access to present at regional and national conferences; and though our Senior Projects. For students planning to attend graduate school, we strongly encourage students to complete the thesis pathway in which students will complete an independent research project.

For students who plan to enter the job market upon graduation, the The Honors Program hosts workshops led by Career and Experiential Learning and leaders in their fields to ensure students are prepared for all aspects of their future careers. For some students this may include completing the Senior Project Internship pathway, where students can get real-world experience in their field.

The Honors Program is an academic based program where students must complete the curriculum in addition to their degree requirements. Honors Societies are organizations that recognize student excellence, to which students may be invited to join once they meet the requirements.
