  2. Analyze case-based presentations to recognize contributing factors that may lead to adverse outcomes or unexpected complications.
  3. Discuss evidence-based strategies for prevention, early recognition, and management of complications in foot and ankle care.
  4. Identify common podiatric conditions and clinical scenarios in which biopsy may be indicated, including suspicious skin lesions, chronic wounds, atypical infections, soft tissue masses, and nonhealing lesions.
  5. Describe how timely biopsy can improve diagnostic accuracy, guide treatment planning, and support appropriate referral or co-management when needed.
  6. Describe current diagnostic approaches for osteoarticular and soft tissue infections of the foot and ankle, including clinical evaluation, laboratory markers, imaging, and culture techniques.
  7. Differentiate between cellulitis, abscess, septic arthritis, osteomyelitis, necrotizing infection, and other musculoskeletal infections commonly encountered in podiatric practice.
  8. Identify key clinical factors that influence limb salvage decision-making, including vascular status, infection severity, wound characteristics, deformity, patient comorbidities, and functional goals.
  9. Describe multidisciplinary approaches to limb salvage involving podiatry, vascular surgery, infectious disease, wound care, orthopedics, endocrinology, rehabilitation, and prosthetics as appropriate.
  10. Describe the pathophysiology and clinical features of complex regional pain syndrome and diabetic peripheral neuropathy, including common diagnostic criteria and symptom patterns.
  11. Explain the principles of neuromodulation and how therapies such as spinal cord stimulation, dorsal root ganglion stimulation, and peripheral nerve stimulation may reduce neuropathic pain.
  12. Review the fundamental AO principles of fracture management and explain their continued relevance in contemporary foot and ankle surgery.

  19. Describe the biological phases of bone healing and the cellular mechanisms involved in fracture repair, osteotomy healing, and fusion.
  20. Identify patient-related and procedure-related factors that may influence bone healing, including vascularity, fixation stability, nutrition, smoking, diabetes, and infection.
  21. Define MUSE cells, or multilineage-differentiating stress-enduring cells, and describe their unique characteristics within the field of regenerative medicine.
  22. Explain the proposed mechanisms by which MUSE cells may contribute to tissue repair, including cellular differentiation, immunomodulation, and paracrine signaling.
