Biography

Dr. Javier Gonzalez is the Director of the Bachelors of Science in Education Program and an Associate Professor of Curriculum and Instruction in the Department of Education and Leadership (College of Arts and Sciences) with over 33 years of experience in the fields of early childhood and elementary education. He earned his PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with a cognate specialty in Early Childhood Education from Barry University in 2011. Dr. Gonzalez taught for the Dade County Public Schools as well as for the private sector including Miami Country Day School and St. Mark’s School K-8. His administrative experiences including working for the Miami Dade County Public Schools district office to develop and implement the district-wide Competency Based Curriculum, Coordinator of Field and Internship for Barry’s School of Education, and the leading the 2+2 Program of Barry’s School of Education at Coral Way Elementary. His extensive higher education experience include Florida International University, Miami Dade College, Kennesaw State University (GA) and Chattahoochee Technical College (GA). His teaching interests include curriculum studies, humanities in education, and educational neuroscience in human development. Dr. Gonzalez has presented at numerous international, national, state, and regional conferences. He is a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Eastern Educational Research Association (EERA), and the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). He was appointed Conference Peer Reviewer for NAEYC since 2018 and EERA since 2019. His philosophical stance embraces constructivism, humanism, and transformative education.
