Biography

Yacenda Hudson is an Assistant Professor of Law at Barry University, School of Law. Professor Hudson teaches Florida Constitutional Law, Florida Civil Practice, Florida Evidence, Trial Advocacy, Motions and Depositions, Contracts and Tools for Success. Her research and ongoing exploration currently revolve around the disenfranchisement of the minority and female vote in death penalty cases. This scholarship should be completed within the upcoming weeks. Subsequently, she will explore the topic “Where do we go from here, the constitutional crisis is now.”

Professor Hudson began her legal career with the well-known Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office where she zealously represented indigent defendants in a wide range of criminal actions from juvenile to murder cases. After six and a half years, Professor Hudson decided to make a major change and enter the civil law world. At that time, Yacenda began to represent financial institutions and servicers in a wide variety of matters.

She subsequently joined a Default Servicing Law Firm as a junior associate and worked her way up the ladder to becoming a managing attorney. Professor Hudson trained and mentored newly barred attorneys transitioning from the law school environment to the practice of law. She assisted with the development of the Florida Collections department and handled all matters from the simple collection action to the highly complex foreclosure action. Professor Hudson was recognized in the DS News as one of the top 25 Women of Law. With the ever-evolving complexity of law and its players, her 21-year success comes from tackling and overcoming stereotypes, working hard to ensure that she has a chair at the leadership table, and earning the respect of professional colleagues.

Professor Hudson enjoys teaching and training the new generation to succeed in the rapidly growing legal field. She is admitted to practice in Florida, Federal Southern District of Florida and Federal Middle District of Florida
