Biography

Ross Leach is a PhD student in Sport & Exercise Psychology at Springfield College in Massachusetts. Before pursuing his doctorate, he earned his Master’s of Science in Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology from Barry University and his Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology (Clinical Track) from the University of Central Florida.

At Springfield College, Ross balances coursework, research, and applied mental performance consulting with the Springfield College Baseball team and the Johnson & Wales Men’s Ice Hockey team. His current research focuses on student-athlete transitions into recreational sport leagues after retirement, as well as the relationship between music and exercise performance, with a specific emphasis on lyrics. A music fanatic and former athlete, Ross is particularly interested in how music influences physical activity engagement, especially in at-risk populations. He appreciates institutions like Barry and Springfield College that foster curiosity, interdisciplinary exploration, and mentorship—qualities that have shaped his passion for sport, music, and performance psychology. Looking ahead, Ross plans to adapt his dissertation to explore how lyrics in music can influence physical activity engagement in populations such as individuals with Parkinson’s Disease.
