Parrot Packs

Students share the everyday items they can’t live without.

What’s In Your Bag?

James Montgomery ’23, MA ‘25
Major: Business

Barry’s basketball program brought James Montgomery to Barry from Maloy College in New York. His future goals: an MBA from Barry, an entrepreneurial endeavor, and a professional basketball uniform. He’s a big fan of watching movies when he’s not studying and abiding by his motto: “Be happy with what you have, while working for what you want.”

What’s in Your Pack?

Kobe Bryant air pods

Montgomery pays tribute to one of his favorite basketball players, Kobe Bryant, every time he pops in his ear buds. “I’m always listening to music when I’m walking around, working out, or just chilling,” says Montgomery.

Bluetooth speaker

“Music helps me get through my day,” says Montgomery.  “I usually listen to Drake, A Boogie, and, because I am from Long Island, Billy Joel.”

Laptop / phone charger

Electronics are a part of every student’s pack these days. Notebooks and dead phone batteries seem to be a rare find today.

Snacks

Food for this ballplayer is critical. “Everyone who knows me knows that I love food and that I am always getting hungry.” Montgomery carries a big jar of mixed nuts and a Gatorade  Protein Bar with him at all times.

Water bottle

Fall in his hometown of New York and fall in the Florida sun are very different beasts. For Montgomery, who is often shuttling between class, workouts, and practice, a water bottle for hydration is a must-have.

An extra pair of sneakers

Nike is this athlete’s go-to brand.

“As an athlete, I always have three pairs of sneakers—one pair usually lasts only about a year.”
