The Barry Urban Garden (BUG) is a community permaculture initiative that provides organic produce to the Barry University Food Pantry and residents of Miami neighborhoods designated as urban food deserts. Campus and community members work together to implement projects within the BUG, which offers experiential learning opportunities to students and engaged scholarship opportunities to faculty. The BUG is an opportunity to champion food sovereignty, and promote the principles and practice of permaculture, emphasizing sustainability, integration, and cooperation.
