All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to participate and contribute to the liturgical and worship life at Barry University. Whether formal or informal, communal prayer is essential to the spirituality of Barry University. Many of our celebrations and faith formation programs take place in the historic Cor Jesu Chapel, located at the heart of our Miami Shores campus.
Catholic Mass
- During the academic year, Sunday Mass is celebrated at 11:00 AM.
- Daily Mass is celebrated Monday through Friday at 12:00 PM.
If you feel called to serve at Mass, please contact our University Chaplain, Fr. Humphrey Ikueze at hikueze@barry.edu to get involved! We are looking for readers to proclaim the word of God, singers and instrumentalists, and more.
Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharistic Adoration
Every Thursday during the academic year, Confessions are heard after the daily Mass until 1:30 PM. You can always schedule an appointment for confession with Fr. Humphrey at hikueze@barry.edu.
Also on Thursdays, the Eucharist is exposed after Mass for adoration and private devotion. Eucharistic adoration is a powerful opportunity to spend personal, intimate time in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Many who practice Eucharistic Adoration commit to a “Holy Hour” to pray and spend time with Jesus. You can learn more about Adoration and access topical guides for Holy Hours here.
Order of the Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)
Every September, Barry University welcomes those called to receive sacraments in the Catholic Church. Whether you are interested in Baptism or looking to complete your sacramental initiation into the Church (Receiving First Communion or Confirmation), you are most welcome to participate in OCIA classes. Those who complete OCIA are welcomed fully into the Church at the annual Easter Vigil in the Spring. Please contact Fr. Humphrey for more information.
Peer Ministry
Peer Ministers are student leaders in the Miami Shores campus community who facilitate and support opportunities to form meaningful and faithful communities across campus. With professional training and pastoral support from MCO, peer ministers foster service and hospitality, deepen spirituality and prayer, and advocate for social justice and teaching.
We seek to represent the diversity of faith and identity at Barry University! If you are interested in serving as a Peer Minister, please contact Fr. Humphrey.
