Thanks to the guidance of Dr. Bartosz Fornal, who was awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation in 2022, Barry students Kassandra Garcia, Alejandra Leon, Jessica Bosch, and Erika Pierre, presented research on four topics based on their study of gravitational waves over the last year: Testing Unification, Dark Matter and Neutrino Masses with Gravitational Wave Detectors, Probing the Origin of Neutrino Masses via Gravitational Waves from Cosmic Strings, Gravitational Wave Signals from Domain Walls as Tests of the Seesaw Mechanism, and Dark Matter and Matter-Antimatter Asymmetry of the Universe from Gravitational Waves.
Where there’s a will, we’ve got the way. Earlier this month, our very own Barry students presented at the annual American Physical Society Meeting in Las Vegas. Bringing together some of the most renowned scientists and students from across the world, this meeting fosters collaboration and networking in the scientific community.
Given that Barry does not have a stand-alone Physics major, it is a testament to the excellent mentorship of Dr. Fornal that our students had the opportunity for such an incredible experience. And it represents a diversity of interests in our students that transcends the prototypical, proving that where there’s a will, at Barry we have the way.
