ORLANDO, Fla (February 9, 2025) — Barry University announced today the appointment of Charles H. Rose III as Dean of the Barry University, Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law, effective June 1, 2026. This appointment reflects Barry University’s continued investment in mission-driven legal education, advocacy training, and student-centered leadership.

“Barry University is committed to making legal education both rigorous and accessible, while preparing students to enter the profession with practical skills and a strong ethical foundation,” said Mike Allen, Ph.D., President of Barry University. “Incoming Dean Rose brings a student-centered vision that prioritizes hands-on training and trial advocacy. His leadership will emphasize teaching excellence and bar readiness, ensuring Barry Law graduates are positioned to serve their clients and communities effectively.”

Dean Rose previously served as Dean and Professor of Law at Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law, where he has led strategic initiatives focused on enrollment growth, academic innovation, and experiential learning since 2019. Prior to that role, he spent 14 years at Stetson University College of Law, where he founded and directed the Center for Excellence in Advocacy, building one of the nation’s most respected trial advocacy programs.

“Today’s legal profession demands graduates who are compassionate, competent, and competitive,” said Charles H. Rose III. “As I step into this role, my focus is on further building the School of Law not only as an environment of disciplined learning, but as a community with lifelong, defining impact for our graduates, our faculty, and the people they go on to serve.”

In addition to his academic leadership, Dean Rose served more than two decades in the U.S. Army as a Judge Advocate, retiring at the rank of Major. His service included senior leadership and teaching roles such as Senior Defense Counsel, Senior Trial Counsel, Deputy Staff Judge Advocate, and Associate Professor of Law at The Judge Advocate General’s School.

A widely published author and internationally recognized educator, Dean Rose has taught trial advocacy across the United States and Europe, including at Oxford University, and through leading legal education organizations such as the American Bar Association and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.

“Throughout his career, Dean Rose has demonstrated a deep commitment to student learning and faculty excellence as foundational pillars of legal education,” said Pablo Ortiz, Provost of Barry University. “His leadership will play a critical role in shaping Barry University’s future, empowering students to become exemplary leaders grounded in our Dominican values.”

The appointment comes at a pivotal moment for legal education, as national employment data from the National Association for Law Placement show sustained demand for new law graduates. As the legal job market increasingly rewards practice-ready graduates, institutions are under growing pressure to provide rigorous training and clear pathways from the classroom to the profession.
