Early and Middle Childhood Education Specialization

Location:

  • Miami Shores Campus
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Freeport, Bahamas

Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor's Degree in early childhood, elementary education, or related field
  • Teaching certification is recommended but not required

Curriculum:

  • All courses taken within the Adrian Dominican School of Education
  • Content courses within math, social studies, science, and reading.
  • Pedagogical courses taken simultaneously

Background Experience:

  • Current educators teaching in early childhood, primary, elementary or a middle school setting
  • Individuals currently working, or planning to work with younger children
  • Substitute teachers, career changers, retired military personnel, school paraprofessionals

Career Options:

  • Teach at College or Higher Education undergraduate level
  • Teach at the Preschool - 8th grade level
  • Curriculum Specialist in early/middle childhood
  • Curriculum Developer for PK-8th Grade class settings
  • Textbook writer/editor for PK-8th grade subject areas
  • Those interested in teaching at the college level.

 

English Education Specialization

Location

  • Miami Shores Campus

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Literature or Writing or equivalent
  • Teaching certification is recommended but not required
  • Coursework prerequisites

Curriculum

  • Courses are split between the Adrian Dominican School of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences
  • Four content courses are taken within the College of Arts and Sciences with a focus on English related courses
  • Pedagogical courses are taken simultaneously within the School of Education

Background Experience

  • Current English, Literature or Writing educators teaching in the middle or high school setting
  • Substitute teachers, career changers, retired military personnel, school paraprofessionals, with a background in the area of English, Literature or Writing

Career Options

  • Teach at College or Higher Education undergraduate level in subject area
  • Middle School /High School Teacher in subject area
  • Curriculum Specialist in subject area
  • Department Chair
  • Textbook writer/editor in English subject area

Social Sciences Education Specialization

Location

  • Miami Shores Campus

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the social science disciplines, history, political science, and sociology
  • Teaching certification is recommended but not required
  • Coursework prerequisites

Curriculum

  • Courses are split between the Adrian Dominican School of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences
  • Four content courses are taken within the College of Arts and Sciences with a focus on social sciences related courses
  • Pedagogical courses are taken simultaneously within the School of Education

  • Current Social Science educators teaching in the middle or high school setting
  • Substitute teachers, career changers, retired military personnel, school paraprofessionals, and others with bachelor's degrees in the area of social science

Mathematics Education Specialization

Location

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor's Degree in education, or related field

Curriculum

  • All courses taken within the Adrian Dominican School of Education
  • Five Content courses focused on Mathematics taught by ADSOE faculty with Mathematics credentials
  • Pedagogical courses taken simultaneously

  • Current educators teaching in P-12 school setting wanting to learn more about Mathematics Education
  • Substitute teachers, career changers, retired military personnel, school paraprofessionals, and others with bachelor's degrees wanting to focus their graduate degree on Mathematics Education
