The Honors Program at Barry is designed to challenge, enrich, and prepare especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential. By participating in a rigorous curriculum rounded out by an array of edifying and interactive events, students explore crucial issues that we face in our daily lives. Students are given the space for discussion and debate and the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. The Office of Financial Aid can assist with determining eligibility for the Honors Program.

The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library is located in the center of the beautiful Miami Shores campus of Barry University. The Library is named in loving memory of Monsignor William Barry, one of the founders of Barry University and an inspirational figure in the Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Miami. The extensive Library research collections include more than 950,000 physical items, over 40,000 print and on-line journal subscriptions, and several thousand on-line books and streaming video resources.

At Barry University, you will experience a small community atmosphere where you can always rely on our administrators and faculty for advice, encouragement and personal attention. We take great pride in giving individual attention from the very beginning. Continuing Education (CE) offers a variety of courses and non-credit programs designed to respond to the diverse educational interests and lifelong learning needs of individuals of all ages. We offer certificate, credential exam preparation, and licensure programs for professional and personal enrichment.

We are committed to providing programs and services that are guided by Barry University's rich educational mission and intended to enhance your Barry experience. Through partnerships with others in the university community, we aim to create experiences that will help transform you into leaders for a just and humane world.

We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

Sport and Exercise Science Programs

Sport and Exercise Science Programs Graduate Assistantships This page lists opportunities within the Exercise Sciences Programs and Intercollegiate Athletics.

Unless otherwise specified, the Graduate Assistantship opportunities listed below become available on a need basis rather than scheduled basis. This need generally occurs when the person currently holding the position graduates.

Students are required to submit academic applications and be accepted to Barry University prior to applying for graduate assistantship positions. For more information about Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology assistantships contact, Dr. Kimberly Shaffer Kshaffer@barry.edu.

Graduate Research Assistant

Graduate Research Assistantships are offered through Sport and Exercise Sciences. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: assisting graduate faculty with essential elements of scientific inquiry: data collection and entry, participant recruitment, assisting with grant applications, literature reviews, pilot testing, and scholarly writing. Graduate student applicants must have experience with research methods.

Graduate Assistant, Athletic Training

The graduate assistant positions offered in Athletic Training are available in two formats. Two on-campus appointments of two years each include assignments to collegiate teams and responsibilities for mentoring pre-clinical undergraduate program majors in athletic training. The second format available is for off-campus single or multiple year assignments to area high schools serving as substitute instructional staff with additional responsibilities as an assistant or head athletic trainer.

Graduate Assistant, Sports Information

The sports information graduate assistant is responsible for assisting the director of sports information in publicizing Barry's 12-sport intercollegiate athletics program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: writing press releases, assisting with production of publications and helping with home event management for all sports, as well as handling other duties as assigned. A bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications or related field is required. Applicants should have solid writing and interpersonal communication skills, and previous experience working with Stat Crew software for Basketball and The Automated Scorebook for baseball / softball, soccer and volleyball. In addition, the successful candidate should have experience working with desktop publishing software including InDesign and PhotoShop. Students must be willing to work during home events, at night and on weekends.

Graduate Assistant, Athletic Administration

This position is one requiring a responsible, motivated candidate who has completed a baccalaureate degree. Responsibilities for this administrative position in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics includes include, but are not limited to, working with the assistant to the dean in supporting the department's study hall/ class attendance program, assisting in daily operations of the athletic program, and being able to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and coaches. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software, and ability to organize/prioritize/follow through on projects is necessary. An undergraduate background in sport management is preferred.
