Occupational Therapy, MS Admission Requirements A maximum of 40 students are admitted to the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program each Fall.

The following are required pre-requisites:  

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university 
  • 3.0 GPA min. 
  • Grades of "C" or better in the following prerequisite courses: 
    • Sociology or anthropology (3 cr.) 
    • Psychology (developmental or abnormal) (3 cr.)  
  • Grades of "B" or better in the following prerequisite courses:  
    • Human Anatomy (3 cr.) 
    • Human Physiology (3 cr.)  
    • Or Anatomy and Physiology I and II (6 cr.) 
    • Kinesiology (3 cr.) taken in the last five years (online kinesiology courses will not be accepted) 
  • Two professional letters of recommendation through OTCAS 
  • Observation hours or volunteer works in an occupational therapy clinic (Recommended but not required). 
  • A statement of purpose addressing the following questions: 
      • In your opinion, how is occupational therapy different from other health-related professions? What makes it unique? 
      • What motivates you to pursue a graduate degree in occupational therapy?  
      • What is your specific plan for meeting the challenges of graduate education with work and other family responsibilities?
  • An interview may be required. 

*Applicants with degrees or experience in health and human service fields are given priority in the admissions process. 
Occupational therapy assistant (OTA) to Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) BRIDGE Program. Applicants with an OTA degree seeking to advance their education with an MS degree are required to have the following prerequisites:  

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university 
  • 3.0 GPA  
  • 6 cr of select OTA courses may be accepted in lieu of sociology or anthropology (3 cr.) and psychology (developmental or abnormal) (3 cr.)  
  • Grades of "B" or better in the following prerequisite courses:  
    • Human anatomy (3 cr.) 
    • Human physiology (3 cr.)  
    • or Anatomy and Physiology I and II) (6 cr.) 
    • Kinesiology (3 cr.) taken the last five years (online kinesiology courses will not be accepted) 
  • Two professional letters of recommendation through OTCAS 
  • A statement of purpose addressing the following question: 
    • What motivates you to advance your education from an OTA to a graduate OT degree in occupational therapy?  
    • What is your specific plan for meeting the challenges of graduate education with work and other family responsibilities? 
  • An interview may be required. 

All application materials, including transcripts and references, must be received by April 1st. Application is encouraged early! 
Admission is on a competitive basis for a limited number of positions. As a result, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. 
Individuals convicted of a felony or misdemeanor may be denied certification or licensure as a health professional. 

***Barry University's Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program is the proud recipient of a $3.2 million grant awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). With the goal of promoting diversity within the healthcare field, the HRSA grant provides scholarships to minority and disadvantaged graduate students in Barry's occupational therapy program. As of the fall 2020 semester, students who enroll in the MSOT program may be considered for the HRSA tuition scholarship. 

The Master of Occupational Therapy (MSOT) program meets the educational requirements to sit for the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) exam and apply for professional licensure in Florida. Barry University has not determined whether the degree program meets the educational requirements to apply for professional licensure outside of Florida. Prospective students are urged to contact their state's licensing agency for the most up-to-date information.
