Verification of Law degree
Applicants must have obtained a law degree from a recognized foreign university. Use of the LL.M. Credential Assembly Service of the Law School Admission Council is strongly preferred for transcript authentication and evaluation. This process will determine if your international degree satisfies this requirement.

English proficiency
Students in the LLM program should be prepared to read and discuss difficult technical material in their courses. Daily class preparation is demanding. Students with English language limitations may have difficulty. Applicants whose native language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English, most commonly through achieving a score of 550/213/79-80 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Strong preference is given to candidates with TOEFL scores of 600/250/100.
IELTS scores are also accepted and a minimum score of at least 7 is strongly preferred. Applicants who believe that they meet the School's English language requirement can submit a written proposal to waive out of the TOEFL or IELTS. This proposal should outline how they meet this requirement with any supporting documentation the applicant wishes to submit. Applicants can submit their proposal to lawadmissions@barry.edu and a Skype interview will be scheduled.
Applicants will not be able to start their LL.M. coursework until they ascertain that they meet Barry Law's language requirements.
Letters of recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required. Letters may be provided by professors who are aware of your academic work. For students who have been out of university for more than a year, colleagues or other professionals should be asked to provide letters. Letters will be accepted in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.
Resume or curriculum vitae
Use an up-to-date resume to state your educational background, professional experience, and language abilities.
Statement
A brief statement of your interest in pursuing the LL.M. in English, not to exceed 600 words, is required. Indicate why you would like to study law in the United States and what you hope to do after completing the LL.M. degree. Use the statement to tell us about yourself and what perspectives and ideas you will bring to the School of Law. If you are interested in any particular area of law, please make this clear in the statement. This statement must be written solely by the applicant.
Interview
A Skype interview is required once the application is complete.
Application fee
A $30 LL.M. application fee is required. The fee must be paid upon submission of application and is nonrefundable.
All of the materials you submit become the sole property of the School of Law and cannot be returned to you or forwarded to any third party. The application must be completed in its entirety, signed and dated by the applicant. Any false or misleading information, as well as incomplete or inaccurate information, may lead to denial of admission or, if admitted, dismissal from the School of Law.
