Webinar Trauma-Informed Resilience Skills at Times of Societal Crisis Barry University School of Social Work is offering a half-day webinar training that will describe how professional helpers can help others build resilience in these uncertain times.

This session will offer practical skills for helping clients cope using principles of trauma-informed care (TIC). Participants will learn to understand and respond to anxieties related to COVID, societal unrest, racial injustice, and uncertainty through the lens of trauma. The training will also provide information and skills related to dealing with vicarious trauma and self-care. Come prepared with some case examples in mind to discuss challenges and to brainstorm solutions.

  • Participants will learn to understand societal anxiety through a trauma lens.
  • By discussing current challenges, participants will review and apply crisis intervention skills using SAMHSA’s principles of TIC.
  • Participants will learn and apply strategies for coping with vicarious trauma and developing self-care.
  • Participants will demonstrate trauma-informed case conceptualization and responses.
  • Participants will be able to identify and describe skills for building resilience during times of community crisis.

About the Speaker

Dr. Jill Levenson

Jill Evenson

Dr. Jill Levenson is a Professor of Social Work at Barry University in Miami, FL. She is a SAMHSA-trained trauma-informed care instructor, and Lead Coordinator for the Trauma-informed Training Initiative at Barry’s Center for Human Rights & Social Justice. She has published 5 books and over 100 articles, many about adverse childhood experiences and trauma-informed care in forensic and clinical settings. Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Justice and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. Dr. Levenson is a licensed clinical social worker who has provided clinical and forensic services in South Florida for over 30 years. She has provided TIC trainings in more than 20 states, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
