Dr. Uva de Aragon is one of the most prolific Latina women authors writing in Spanish in the United States. Narrator, poet, essayist, journalist, editor, academic, and blogger. Her work covers a wide range of genres and themes. Her latest essay, El Reino de la Infancia, received the Latino Book Award 2022 in the category autobiography. She is the author of three novels set in Miami, two of which have been translated to English. In class we will be reading her most influential novel Memoria del silencio (The Memory of Silence), about the reconciliation of two sisters who get separated by the Cuban Revolution and exile to Miami. She will comment on her work. The 2024 Cuban Research Institute Conference, the most important conference on Cuban and Cuban American studies, was dedicated to her.
