School of Social Work First Responders Information Session

Congratulations on your decision to advance your career in social work. When you choose to pursue a terminal degree with Barry University’s School of Social Work, you join a family of justice-oriented clinicians, researchers, policymakers, scholars, and organizational leaders on a mission to "Be the Voice of Change."

We offer two distinct doctoral programs designed to help you meet your unique professional goals:

Doctorate in Social Work (DSW)

Open to MSW applicants only, this path prepares you to broaden your career possibilities by advancing your clinical practice, as well as honing your expertise in leadership, scholarship, and organizational effectiveness.

The DSW requires:

  • 2 years post MSW practice prior to enrollment
  • Major project

Doctor of Philosophy in Social Work (Ph.D.)

Open to MSW and allied disciplines, the Ph.D. in Social Work links theory, research methodology, and a variety of public and private organizational settings to prepare you for careers in academe, research consulting, and agency leadership.

The Ph.D. requires:

  • 2 years post-master's experience (preferred)
  • Dissertation
