CCPS is here to support you. There is no one reason why a person seeks counseling. It isn’t always in response to crisis or a traumatic event. Sometimes the issue that brings students to CCPS may be as simple as time management or more involved such as relationship concerns, grief, anxiety, or depression. Recognizing and seeking the support that will assist you in living a life that you want is a sign of strength.

CCPS Counselors are experienced professionals who understand that you are unique. There are times when a person's needs exceed our scope of practice, or a person wants to receive counseling but would feel more comfortable seeing someone not part of the Barry community. In either scenario, CCPS will help make the appropriate referrals.

A counselor will help you to establish a plan to develop positive mental health practices, set and reach personal goals, and most importantly improve your quality of life.

The services offered by the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services are only available to currently enrolled Barry University students.

  • Appointment

    Make an Appointment

    To schedule an appointment, please call (305) 899-3950 or stop by our office located in Landon 105. We make every effort to see students requesting an initial appointment within a week. 

  • Care

    What to Expect

    Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time to complete the initial paperwork. During your 50 minute initial appointment, you will discuss your concerns with a counselor, who will make recommendations regarding your treatment.


We take protecting your privacy very seriously.  Counseling Center records are confidential and are separate from other university records. The privacy of communication between clients and mental health professionals is protected by law. To provide effective service, clinicians or psychiatrists may consult with other Counseling Center staff.  

Any other release of information requires the client’s written consent, except where disclosure is required or allowed by law (e.g., where there is a reasonable suspicion of abuse of children, dependent adults, or elderly persons; where the client presents a serious danger of violence to another person; where the client is likely to harm himself/herself; or when required by a valid court order).  This means that under normal circumstances no one outside the Counseling Center is given any information - even the fact that you have been here - without your expressed written consent.

Confidentiality is an important aspect of counseling.  Our primary goal is to provide you with a safe environment in which you feel comfortable to discuss your concerns.


College is a time of growth and exploration, and CCPS is here to provide you with the resources, tools, and support to do that in our office, across campus, and in the community. We regularly partner with student organizations to bring awareness to important issues. In the past, we have held weeks of awareness for eating disorders,  domestic violence, and sexual assault.

In addition to those weeks of awareness, we have coordinated events in collaboration with students and staff across campus focused on gratitude, stress relief, and other topics. We are always looking for opportunities to engage with students, faculty, and staff to enrich their experience and well-being.

Miller Analogies Test (MAT)

The Miller Analogies Test (MAT) has been used as a graduate school admission test for more than 70 years in university programs throughout the United States. 

The MAT is a high-level mental ability test that evaluates your ability to solve analytical problems stated in the form of analogies.

Emergency Services

The Counseling Center provides emergency services during our normal business hours.  To be seen as a walk-in appointment, please either stop by Landon 105 or call our office at 305-899-3950.  

Be sure to inform the administrative assistant that you are experiencing a crisis and are requesting a walk-in appointment.  Our staff will make every effort to respond to your situation as quickly as possible.

In an immediate emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

      If you (or a friend) are experiencing distress and need someone to talk with when the Counseling Center is closed, please contact the Resident Assistant on duty.  They will be able to reach the after-hours crisis counselor.

Meet the Staff

The Center’s staff is as diverse as the Barry student body. Each of our staff members brings unique professional experiences and personal interest to enrich our office and the Barry community as a whole.
When not in the office, our counselors are out participating and engaging with students, faculty, and staff whether that’s in an IRS class, at late-night breakfast, or enjoying Mass. Each member of our staff is committed to maintaining your confidentiality and supporting you in anyway their role allows.
