Hurricane Ian

Sep 28, 2022

Update #4

Barry University’s Command Decision Team (CDT) continues to monitor Hurricane Ian, which has officially hit the west coast of Florida near Fort Myers. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with all those who are in the direct path of this powerful Hurricane.

While we have experienced some minor damage and power outages throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, much of the southeast coast and inland areas have been spared.

In light of students, faculty, staff and their families who have been displaced by Hurricane Ian, as well as the closure of the public school system, Barry University locations in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties will resume remote operations and classes tomorrow, Thursday, September 29. Students taking courses with interactive assignments or labs should communicate directly with their instructor(s) for further instructions. We will resume normal operations and all classes for these locations on Friday, September 30.

All Podiatric Medicine Clinics will resume normal operations on Thursday, September 29.

All other locations throughout the State of Florida including Melbourne, Jacksonville, Ocala, and Orlando will be closed and classes canceled through Friday, September 30.

Barry University’s Law Campus in Orlando will also remain closed and classes canceled through Friday, September 30.

We will continue to evaluate and assess the impact of Hurricane Ian on these locations and will provide updates regarding operations and courses after the storm passes.

It is important that all Barry University students and employees continue to monitor the barry.edu/prepare website and our Emergency Hotline at 305-899-4000 for updated information as well as their local media outlets for the latest on the hurricane.

The CDT will continue to monitor and provide updates as conditions warrant.
