Tropical Depression Fred Update #3
August 13, 2021 5:53 PM EST
A tropical storm warning is now in effect for the Florida Keys, with a tropical storm watch still in place for parts of the southwest coast of Florida.
The impact on the Florida peninsula is expected to begin tonight, with heavy rainfall anticipated through Monday in the southern and central parts of the state.
Local officials note that South Florida may experience winds that could reach tropical storm force in periods of brief gusts and squalls, and that flooding is the greatest threat at this time. The most likely arrival time of sustained tropical storm force winds in South Florida is Saturday and Saturday night. A Flood Watch is in effect for all of South Florida starting at 8PM tonight through Sunday evening.
There are currently no changes to any scheduled activities at any Barry University locations. The Command Decision Team (CDT) continues to monitor Tropical Depression Fred and will provide updates as conditions warrant.
It is important all Barry University students and employees continue to monitor the barry.edu/prepare website and our Emergency Hotline at 305-899-4000 for updated information, as well local media outlets for the latest on the storm.
