Barry University announces the formation of the College of Health and Wellness. The College will join the Department of Health Sciences and the Department of Health Promotion and Clinical Practice with the School of Social Work and School of Nursing. The formation of the College of Health and Wellness mobilizes us in a new way by applying a multidimensional approach that includes physical, mental, social, spiritual, environmental, and even global considerations. This approach advances interprofessional collaboration in education and responding to our community’s workforce needs.
Our Department of Health Sciences offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in Clinical Biology and many laboratory specializations, Biomedical Sciences, health services administration, and public health.
Our Department of Health Promotion and Clinical Practice includes our Physician Assistant Program, Occupational Therapy programs, and our comprehensive Sports and Exercise Sciences with undergraduate and graduate degrees in Exercise Physiology, Athletic Training, and Performance Psychology.
Our School of Social Work educates from a clinical lens using a trauma-informed curriculum, offering undergraduate and graduate and doctoral degrees. Our graduates contribute to the community by providing significant counseling and mental health services, addressing the uptick in family and community violence, mitigating the continued addiction crisis, countering the consequences of social isolation issues, and ministering to our area’s our most disenfranchised and vulnerable members.
This new structure replaces what was the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. A new School of Nursing has been launched and will focus on the development of novel approaches to preparing the nursing workforce of the future.
