About the Program
Participants experience college life in the mornings and are fully immersed in a science project in the afternoons. Program highlights include:
- Orientation on the first day to introduce parents and students to the program
- University-style interactive lectures, workshops, guest presentations and debates focusing on college preparation and college life: pathways to a profession; scientific writing; résumé preparation; professional and research ethics; science, technology, healthcare and research careers.
- Individualized hands-on laboratory research using molecular biology techniques with state-of-the-art equipment that offers students the chance to learn techniques, conduct experiments, and collect and interpret data. Participants execute and analyze all parts of the experiment.
- Awards Ceremony on the last day of the program showcasing participants’ achievements. Students make a formal oral presentation about the research project and receive a certificate.
Appropriately 50 schools in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties participate in the program.
