Student Organizations

  • The Biomedical Sciences Society is our largest club and is open to all BMS students. The Society’s goal is to prepare students for the rigors of medical, dental or professional school through academic support, as well as community service, career planning, and social activities. The group provides opportunities for career enhancement and meets for regular community service projects, outreach events, and social gatherings. The BMS Society’s dedication to service has consistently been recognized by numerous awards and it strives to continue this tradition. Members of its executive board include: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Community Service Coordinator, Fundraising Coordinator, and Media Coordinator.

  • MEDLIFE is an organization that partners with low-income communities in Latin America to improve their access to medicine, education, and community development initiatives. Barry’s MEDLIFE chapter is comprised of motivated BMS students who facilitate this cause through fundraising efforts and week-long volunteer trips to serve in mobile clinics.

  • The Minority Association of Pre-Health Students (MAPS) is a multicultural pre-health organization. MAPS serves as a pipeline and mentorship program to bridge the gaps for underrepresented students who wish to enter medical school, or other health-related fields. MAPS has members from both undergraduate (Biology, Chemistry, Nursing) and graduate (Biomedical Sciences) programs. (Many MAPS meetings and events are held at the Miami Shores campus.)

Several clubs are also available to BMS students through the Biology Department on Main campus:

  • American Medical Student Association (AMSA) is a national organization of medical, graduate BMS, and undergraduate pre-med students. AMSA students participate in volunteer activities, engage in discussions about current topics in medicine, enjoy presentations from invited speakers, and receive guidance throughout the testing, application, and interview process.

  • The Pre-Dental Club is open to undergraduate students and graduate BMS students who plan to apply to dental schools after graduation. The club hosts regular meetings that provide members with important information about preparing for dental school. The club also offers trips to dental schools, summer learning programs, on-campus activities and social events

  • The Pre-Physician Assistant Student Association (Pre-PASA) provides students with quality information, social activities and volunteer opportunities that will prepare its members for a smooth transition to any graduate physician assistant program.

  • Barry’s Pre-Veterinary Club is open to all animal-lovers. The club meets monthly to discuss and share experiences regarding the veterinary school application process.
