Frequently Asked Questions about the Barry U Honors Program

  • Yes, all eligible Honors students are awarded the Barry Honors Scholarship for up to $2500.00 per term (Fall and Spring).

  • Yes, eligible Honors students can receive an additional Honors scholarship (for up to $3000.00 per academic year; amount varies per year).

  • Yes, the following statement, along with the thesis title, are printed on Honors students’ final transcript: Student Completed Honors Program at Barry University. This program is designed for superior students.

  • Small, usually with 10 to 15 students, giving you ample opportunities to engage in in-depth classroom discussions. The intellectual exchange and camaraderie between faculty and peers are among the top reasons students choose to join and stay in the program.

  • Students currently take up to 6 Honors courses with other Honors students.

  • Of these Honors courses, three courses fulfill these requirements, and three courses fulfill the general elective credits.

  • Yes, students gain excellent leadership skills while serving on the Honors Program Student Advisory Board (HPSAB).

  • Yes, the Honors Program’s Newsletter is a student run newsletter.  Working on the newsletter is part of the students’ leadership experience on HPSAB.

  • Yes, Honors students embark on an independent research project as part of their Senior Honors Thesis.  Most students are motivated to work on their Senior Honors Thesis as this independent research experience prepare them well for graduate studies. 

  • Yes, Honors students have a chance to present their research paper at the annual National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC), Southern Regional Honors Council (SRHC) and/or in-state Honors Conferences. 

  • You can sign up for Honors Housing. Honors student also get an exclusive access to the Honors Lounge in Bevilacqua Hall Ste. 148 and Honors Student ID card.
