The Honors Program at Barry is designed to challenge, enrich, and prepare especially motivated students to pursue their fullest potential. By participating in a rigorous curriculum rounded out by an array of edifying and interactive events, students explore crucial issues that we face in our daily lives. Students are given the space for discussion and debate and the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. The Office of Financial Aid can assist with determining eligibility for the Honors Program.

The Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library is located in the center of the beautiful Miami Shores campus of Barry University. The Library is named in loving memory of Monsignor William Barry, one of the founders of Barry University and an inspirational figure in the Catholic Church within the Archdiocese of Miami. The extensive Library research collections include more than 950,000 physical items, over 40,000 print and on-line journal subscriptions, and several thousand on-line books and streaming video resources.

At Barry University, you will experience a small community atmosphere where you can always rely on our administrators and faculty for advice, encouragement and personal attention. We take great pride in giving individual attention from the very beginning. You can start building a personal relationship with one of our admissions counselors who will help answer any questions, and guide you through the entire admissions and enrollment process.

Continuing Education (CE) offers a variety of courses and non-credit programs designed to respond to the diverse educational interests and lifelong learning needs of individuals of all ages. We offer certificate, credential exam preparation, and licensure programs for professional and personal enrichment.

High school students: Get a jump-start on your college education with dual enrollment courses from Barry University! You can earn high school and college credit at the same time, right at your own school.

We are committed to providing programs and services that are guided by Barry University's rich educational mission and intended to enhance your Barry experience. Through partnerships with others in the university community, we aim to create experiences that will help transform you into leaders for a just and humane world.

We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 24 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.

Liturgy and Sacraments

Liturgical worship and communal prayer are essential to the spirituality of Barry University. Daily and weekly we assemble as a community of faith to encounter God and one another. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to participate in both formal and informal worship events throughout the year. Many of these take place in historic Cor Jesu (Heart of Jesus) Chapel, located in the heart of the main campus

University Masses

  • The University community marks the beginning of the Academic Year by celebrating the Mass of the Holy Spirit. This is a tradition dates back to the 16th century. Members of all faiths are invited to this common prayer for the Spirit's inspiration and guidance in living out our mission of educating leaders who will fashion a more humane and just world for all.

  • The traditional Founder Day Mass in Cor Jesu Chapel honors the vision and legacy of Mother Mary Gerald Barry, Bishop Patrick Barry, Monsignor William Barry, John Thompson, and the Adrian Dominican Sisters for whom Barry is a sponsored institution.

  • The Baccalaureate Mass is a beautiful liturgical ceremony offered in thanksgiving for the blessings God has bestowed upon the graduates and their families. Graduates participate in the academic procession with faculty and administrators and must wear their gowns but not their caps or hoods.

Prepare your heart for Easter by committing to daily prayer, weekly meetings, and an ongoing spiritual inventory. We will also be exploring different spiritual practices such as fasting, meditation, and service. Warning: only for those willing to be transformed by God.

Ash Wednesday - February 14, 2024 - 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm

Two Services: 12:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. at Cor Jesu Chapel

In the Roman Catholic Church, Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the season of preparation for the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday. During Mass, the ashes which give Ash Wednesday its name are distributed. The ashes are made by burning the blessed palms that were distributed the previous year on Palm Sunday; many churches ask their parishioners to return any palms that they took home so that they can be burned.

Palm Sunday – March 24, 2024 - 11:00 am

Palm Sunday commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover. It is celebrated the Sunday before Easter. Palms are blessed and distributed before Mass.

Easter Triduum

  • Easter Vigil: March 30, 2024 - 8:30 pm
  • Easter Sunday: March 31, 2024 - 11:00 am

The Easter Triduum, marking the days of Jesus’ passion and resurrection, is the most important time of the church year. It begins with the evening Mass of Holy Thursday, reaches its high point in the Easter Vigil, and closes on Easter Sunday evening.

Easter Sunday Mass - March 31, 2024 - 11:00 am

Easter is the greatest feast in the Christian calendar. On this Sunday, Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. For Catholics, Easter Sunday comes at the end of 40 days of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving known as Lent. Through spiritual struggle and self-denial, we have prepared ourselves to die spiritually with Christ on Good Friday, the day of His Crucifixion, so that we can rise again with Him in new life on Easter.

Liturgical Formation Program

In addition to this new worship experience, there is an opportunity to learn how to create a service. Through this experience we learn to prepare intentional and relevant liturgies and worship. For mature Christians and those who are “seekers”, this liturgy will encourage all to come closer to the light. All serious and dedicated learners are welcome to participate.
