There is hardly any aspect of modern life that isn’t affected by the current challenges facing the environment. Barry’s Mission and Core Commitments call us to recognize the sacredness of Earth and engage in meaningful efforts toward social change. As we learn more about how human behavior is harming the planet, we’re creating new ways to educate, reflect, and innovate within our campus community. This page provides a curated list of resources, local shops, and organizations in South Florida where students, faculty, and staff can explore and practice an eco-friendly lifestyle.

  • Let’s face it, not everyone has a car and parking can be an issue. Instead of riding around for what can seem like an eternity, why not find a way to avoid the problem all together. Barry University offers several resources that you can utilize to make your journey to campus easier on our environment, your mind and wallet.

  • Opting for sustainability sourced food and supporting local farmers and restaurants is an excellent way to live out your eco-friendly commitment. From fresh fruits and veggies to innovative vegan establishments, Miami offers a variety of options for all lifestyles.

  • If you are tired of the fast fashion trends and want to try a more ethical approach to shopping, join the movement by visiting local thrift shops for clothes and much more. Many local shops offer high quality products at an affordable price perfect for the college student budget.

  • If you are interested in becoming one with nature, consider exploring the various natural resources within a short distance of our beautiful campus. South Florida is home to a unique tropical ecosystem that includes world famous beaches, the unique everglades, and a variety of waterways and parks where visitors can walk, bike, paddle, picnic and more. Each semester, students can participate in free eco-adventure trips.

  • Getting involved with a local non-profit organization is a great way to support the environment. Barry University has various community partnerships that students can volunteer with through the Center for Community Service Initiatives.
