Barry University is serious about athletics. We are an NCAA Division II school and a member of the Sunshine State Conference with 12 varsity teams, including men's baseball, basketball, golf, soccer and tennis; and women's basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. So far, we've won 19 NCAA championships, had 338 All-Americans, 413 Scholar All-Americans, and nine NCAA "Women of the Year" finalists, the most of any Division II school. Not bad at all, but we're going for more.
Buccaneer Athletic Tradition
Our Buccaneer athletic program is one of the most competitive in the NCAA Division II. Both the men's and women's tennis teams have advanced to the NCAA Tournament 20 straight years. The women's tennis team earned their 22nd bid in 2013, the most of any of the Bucs' 12 teams in the program. In addition, Barry's coaches have also claimed 50 Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year awards and eight National Coach of the Year awards.
Winning As Students, As Part Of A Team, And At Life.
Barry University's approach to the student-athlete experience is holistic, supporting the student and the athlete. Faculty, advisors, staff, and coaches share the same commitment to ensure Barry student-athletes push themselves to excel in the classroom and in their sport – not one over the other. Communication and collaborative mechanisms are in place to foster an academic and athletic culture that thrives on support and achievement, creating a win-win situation. Beyond the scholastic and the physical, Barry's 12 athletic programs participate in group and individual community service efforts: feeding the homeless, tutoring, tree-planting, nursing home visitation, and more.
