John G. “Jack” Dezek, EdD

Dr. Dezek is associate dean for professional studies in education and associate professor of educational leadership at Barry. He earned the bachelor’s degree in English/Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Master’s, Ed Specialist and Doctor of Education Degrees in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. Before coming to Barry, Dr. Dezek was the dean of graduate studies at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan; while in Michigan he served as a member and was elected co-chair of the Michigan Council of Graduate Deans.
Dr. Dezek previously taught high school English and journalism courses in Baltimore County, Maryland, and in Allegan County, Michigan; in Michigan he also served as director of public relations of a K-12 school district and, later, for Aquinas College. He has edited several publications and newsletters including the Aquinas Magazine. Jack has made presentations at conferences and workshops on marketing, educational public relations, and school-community collaborations. He teaches graduate courses in school/community relations and communications. He has been a member of the National Association of Graduate Admissions Professions (NAGAP) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and has done community service work with local chambers of commerce as well as United Way and AIDS agencies.
