Barry University hosted some of the top IT representatives from South Florida businesses and universities December 7 as part of the “Skills in the 21st Century,” an academic initiative put on by representatives of IBM to address the nationwide decrease of student enrollment within technical degree programs.

The gathering served as a forum between South Florida’s business and higher education communities, so that the area’s colleges and universities have a better understanding of the computer skills that are needed by businesses today. According to IBM, there are 70 million people expected to leave the IT workforce within the next 20 years, with only 40 million educated enough to take their place.
