Nilsson-Tecklenberg and Witt Join Conference Hall of Fame

Jenny Nilsson-Tecklenberg (soccer/rowing) and Christian Witt (tennis) joined the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame this year as the seventh and eighth Buccaneers inducted into the hall.

Nilsson led the Bucs to undefeated conference championships in 1999 and 2000, earning first team all-conference both years and co-Player of the Year honors in 1999. Her marks for goals (61), assists (36), points (158) and game-winning goals (14) were all conference records when she graduated. Her 2000 season may have been the best ever in the conference. She led the league in goals (25) and was fourth in assists (12) setting the record (62) for points that still stands after 10 years.

She carried the Bucs to the NCAA semi-finals in 1999 and 2000 as the Bucs became the first school to host both the men’s and women’s finals at the same location.

She also helped the rowing team to conference titles in 1999 and 2000, earning four conference titles during her three-year career.

Witt set marks both on the court and in the classroom that will be hard to top. He was a two-time ITA Rolex singles champion (1998 and 1999) and also earned CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year (2000), becoming one of the only players in history to top the field in both athletics and academics in the same season.

He holds the Barry record for winning percentage, going 50-4 in dual matches during his two-year career, posting 25-2 marks both years.

He led the Bucs to the SSC title in 1999, earning Player of the Year honors.

The pair will be formally inducted to the Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 14 in Orlando, Florida.
