Sister Nancy Murray, OP '72
Adrian Dominican Sister Preaching through Acting
Sister Nancy Murray, OP is leaving her mark on audiences across the country and throughout the world, bringing to life St. Catherine of Siena, Doctor of the Church. With simple props and a fertile imagination, Sister Nancy portrays Catherine as the colorful, strong, passionate and enthusiastic personality that she was. Thanks to Sister Nancy's gift of transforming herself into this 14th century saint and patroness of the Dominican Order, numerous churches, schools and organizations have become acquainted with Catherine's fierce devotion to and love for God.
Born in Wilmette, Illinois, the third of nine children, Sister Nancy earned a bachelor's degree in theatre from Barry University and a master's degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University. Sister Nancy was also a teacher at primary, secondary and university levels. In addition, she worked in campus ministry, as an inner-city parish pastoral associate and as vocation director for the Adrian Dominican Sisters.
In this new form of preaching, Sister Nancy uses her education and pastoral skills to present St. Catherine of Siena's life as thoroughly medieval and surprisingly modern. Sister Nancy has performed on five continents and has captivated audiences young and old alike in both English and Spanish.
