Accreditations for Adrian Dominican School of Education Graduate Programs

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools

Barry University’s School of Education is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award bachelor's, master's, specialist, and doctoral degrees.

Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs

PhD in Counseling Program at both Miami Shores and Orlando (since 7/2009) is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Master of Science (MS) in Counseling Program at both Miami Shores and Orlando is accredited by CACREP in the Mental Health Counseling (since 10/1995); Marital, Couple, Family Counseling/Therapy (since 10/2000); and School Counseling (since 10/1995) specializations.

The CACREP is the premiere national accrediting agency for Counseling Programs; accreditation from CACREP signifies that the accredited program meets the highest training standards of the counseling profession. The CACREP does not accredit Educational Specialist programs.

Graduates of Barry's Counseling Program are eligible to take the examination to become a National Certified Counselor (NCC), Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), and Florida Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

The CACREP is the premiere national accrediting agency for counseling programs. Accreditation from CACREP signifies that the accredited program meets the highest training standards of the counseling profession. The CACREP does not accredit Educational Specialist programs. Graduates of Barry's Counseling Program are eligible to take the examination to become a National Certified Counselor (N.C.C.).

The Florida Department of Education

The following graduate programs are approved by the Florida Department of Education:

MS in Counseling, School Counseling Specialization prepares school counselors at the elementary and secondary levels, and leads to Florida Certification in Guidance and Counseling PK-12. Click here for more information on accreditation for the School Counseling Specialization.

MS and EdS in Educational Leadership programs provide graduates with eligibility to obtain the Florida Department of Education Professional Educator’s Certificate.

MS in Reading qualifies graduates to be Reading Specialists as well as provides graduates eligibility to obtain the state Reading Certification. This is a 30- credit program. Click here for more information on accreditation for Barry’s Reading programs.

Reading Endorsement allows graduates become highly-qualified reading teachers, giving them eligibility to teach different types of reading courses. This is a 15-credit program. Click here for more information on accreditation for Barry’s Reading programs.

SSP in School Psychology is approved by the Florida Department of Education to prepare school psychologists at the elementary and secondary levels and leads to Florida Certification in Certified School Psychologist PK-12. Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education

MS or EdS in Montessori Education graduates of this program can be recommended to the American Montessori Society (AMS) for a teaching certificate in their area of specialization (Elementary I & II or Early Childhood). The AMS certificate is a lifetime certification and recognized in the USA and abroad.

National Association of School Psychologists

SSP in School Psychology is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). NASP program approval/national recognition is an important indicator of quality graduate education in school psychology, comprehensive content, and extensive and properly supervised field experiences and internships. Obtaining national certification enables graduates to practice in other states without undergoing recertification.
