Biography
Dr. Paige V. Banaji teaches First-Year Writing, Rhetorical Theory and Public Discourse, Activist Rhetorics, Writing about Science, Multimedia Writing, and Women in Literature. Her teaching is grounded in a deep knowledge of composition pedagogy and rhetorical theory. In her classes, she seeks to introduce students to rhetorical ways of knowing, invite students to develop flexible writing processes, and encourage students to realize their strengths as writers and learners.
Dr. Banaji served as Barry University’s Director of First-Year Writing from 2016-2024. She is currently Associate Director of the Honor’s Program.
Her scholarship has been published in Rhetoric Review, Composition Forum, Peitho, and edited collections. She is also co-editor of the book, The Rhetoric of Participation Interrogating Commonplaces In and Beyond the Classroom. In 2012, Dr. Banaji received the Ohio State University Muste Dissertation Prize for her research on nineteenth-century women elocutionists.
Dr. Banaji’s current research examines the rhetorical legacies of Florida women who advocated for Everglades conservation in the early twentieth century. With this project, she hopes to bring together a scholarly conversation at the intersection of feminist historiography of rhetoric and environmental rhetoric.
