Barry University is continuing its commitment to integral ecology through participation in Florida Power & Light’s SolarTogether program, a community solar initiative that enables institutions and other customers to support renewable energy generated at large-scale solar facilities in Florida.
Through the program, Barry receives credits associated with solar energy generated on its behalf. For the 2025 generation year, 8,821 renewable energy certificates were retired on behalf of the University, representing approximately 8.8 million kilowatt-hours of solar energy generation, which is approximately the annual electricity use of 800 average American homes.
Barry’s participation in SolarTogether is one example of how the University is advancing its commitment to the Laudato Si’ Action Platform and its goal of responding to the “Cry of the Earth.” While much of Barry’s integral ecology work engages students, faculty, staff, and community partners through education, formation, and service, institutional decisions about energy and operations are also an important part of this work.
By supporting renewable energy through community solar, Barry is taking a practical step toward reducing the environmental impact of its operations and promoting a more sustainable future. This work reflects the University’s commitment to integrating care for our common home into the life and mission of the institution.
