(MIAMI, FL) With home prices surging, today Barry University announced an important step the institution is taking to support employees on their path to home ownership in the Sunshine State. The University will bring new resources to employees through a partnership with Landed, a personal finance company aimed at helping essential employees afford to buy homes.
The partnership, the first of its kind in Florida for Landed, will give Barry faculty and staff access to up to $120,000 for a down payment, along with other helpful homebuying resources.
“As the cost of housing continues to rise, we heard our faculty and staff when they asked for innovative employer support in securing housing,” said Jennifer Boyd-Pugh, Barry’s Vice President for University Administration. “We believe Landed will be a valuable solution to help make home ownership more accessible and ensure our world class faculty and staff continue to share their talents and expertise with our students.”
Landed's down payment program invests alongside employees working in education, government, and healthcare to help them reach a 20% down payment. Landed's funds, up to $120,000 per home, come in the form of an equity investment, meaning that homebuyers share in a portion of the gain – or loss, if any – of the value of the home once the partnership is ended — typically by sale or refinance.
“We are thrilled to bring Landed to higher education employees in Florida, and we look forward to connecting directly with Barry’s faculty, staff and their families,” said Claire Goebel, Southeast Employer Partnerships Lead at Landed. “It’s critical to help essential professionals afford to live near the communities they serve, and we are honored to help uphold those who uphold this community on a daily basis.”
Landed’s partnership with Barry University is the company’s first expansion into a higher education institution in Florida. The Catholic school joins Santa Clara University and Seattle University to become the third Catholic university to offer Landed’s services to its employees.
Over the coming weeks, a series of informational sessions will be hosted for Barry University employees interested in learning more about Landed’s programs. Details for these events can be found at www.landed.com/infosessions. Since its founding in 2015, Landed has helped over 1,000 essential employees access homeownership through down payment assistance and other homebuying services in 160 metro areas across 18 states and Washington, DC.
